![]() Windows bug discovered after 17 years Affects all 32 bit versions Microsoft has recently not easy. After the recent vulnerability in Internet Explorer (which you now have a solution for downloading), the company now has another problem: a vulnerability in Windows. A large leak, which also has seventeen years unnoticed. Windows users with restricted rights, those rights can leak through this boost to system level. Mala Fide people have so little need to complete your system to kill off. Although the leak the home user probably causes little harm, your company network administrator this week certainly has his hands full. The vulnerability affects all versions of 32-bit operating system, Windows NT 3.1 to Windows 7. The vulnerability is caused by errors in the Virtual DOS Machine (VDM). Which was introduced in 1993 to 16-bit applications support in the x86 series. VDM is based on the Virtual 8086 Mode (VM86) in 80386 processors and covers, among other hardware routines, such as communication with the BIOS. Solution? Although Microsoft already was informed in 2009, has so far no official patch available. According to Tavis Ormandy of the Google Security Team is to circumvent the problem, however, by the MS-DOS subsystem off. Copy the following text in a file named vdmdisallow.reg and double click the file. Windows then automatically imports the key into the registry. Do not forget that you need administrator rights to make adjustments in the registry. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ AppCompat] "VDMDisallowed" = dword: 00000001 GRTZ CYBER WEESJE SENIOR ADMIN@SPJ |
