Looking for a new Comp or laptop

As the title says... im in the market for a new comp... actually two... probably a desktop for myself but mainly for a laptop for my girl... but we are not interested in spending too much cash... any of yahll got any good links where I can find some hardware of pretty decent quality, up to date but at reasonable and affordable prices?... I mean I dont expect to get top of the line for cheap... but this is for basic usage anywayz... office apps, internet access, photo veiwng, etc... maybe for me, i mght start diving into some heavier stuff, like playing around w/ kitchens or graphic editing and stuff, possibly even games (but all on a hobbyist level) so like I said really basic stuff... Ive been shopping around a bit, but all the instore places want like 1000, and Im no sucker... i know theres lots of great tech out there, at reasonable prices, especially for the basic user... so can anyone help me find it... i started checking out newegg yesterday... but more ould be helpful so i can try to get the best competitive rates... newegg isnt bad at all to start, im a fan of tigerzdirect also since htey have good prices..... i have purchased through both places and havent had any troubles. also you shoudl check out craigslist or ebay becasue if you dont mind used you can get some really good deals on both laptops and desktop pc's.

Thanks Dash... I definatly dont mind used... and was actually considering checking out what craigs... and ebay had... but my woman... well she aint tech savvy and is weary of it, so she definatly looking for new, simplified and ease of use out the box... im just tryna facilitate the process...

if you want a desktop and want to cover shipping i have a compaq pesario with a pentium 4 processor and an upgraded graphics card in there.... the only problem is that it freezes from time and to time and is a little heavy but if you want to take a shot and see if you can fix it i will send it to you if you want to cover shipping...... it freezes about 20 minutes after each reboot....... sounds liek the processor is failing to me and you can get those cheap now-a-days or get an estimate and see what is wrong with the pc... if you interested let me know and i can get you an estimate on what shipping will cost to you.
