Default I Will Not Upgrade To Windows Phone 7 Series

    Rant/ON

As some of you know, I'm a Touch Pro owner & have customized my user interface to the max with SPB's Mobile Shell. This allows me to essentially have the phone set up entirely differently for work or play.

One screen has the programs and contacts I use for work, one has programs and contacts I use when away from work & a 3rd has "phone management" things like backlight and ringer profile.

Unlike most, I'm actually a fan of WinMo, provided you have it "skinned" with something like Sense or Mobile Shell. It allows you almost all of the control of a PC and all of the features of the most up to date phones on the market.

So, when 7 was announced, I was excited and nervous. With WinMo6.5, they finally got the OS somewhat finger friendly so that once you dove deeper than your "skin," you still didn't need the stylus. And, it was and is super-smooth. Would this carry over?

Well, I'm sad to say that after spending a month looking into Windows 7 Phone Series (stupidly long name,) I have come to the conclusion that I won't be getting one. I have almost zero interest in it.

The first thing that shocked me was the lack of customization. Now, instead of having a panel with the four work contacts I call ALL DAY, I'd have to open all my contacts & do some scrolling. No thanks. I haven't had to put up with that crap in years. Sure, you can set favorites, but I still have to navigate to get to them. Screw that! That's a step backwards. The same goes for the programs I use. No thank you.

No multitasking? What the heck? Another backwards step! We start getting hardware that can actually support what the WinMo OS is truly capable of & they cripple it! Screw you, Microsoft!

No Cut & Paste? Really? Really? No clipboard functionality? Seriously? They must be kidding. In the interview where this was revealed, the guy said smartphone users really didn't need this function. Riiiiight. Hey, guys... you just sealed the deal.

XBox? Really? I don't even own an XBox. Having this, for me, and adult, is actually a turn off. If I wanted a toy, I'd buy an iPhone. In fact, now that I think about it, Microsoft has just adopted two of the key problems with iPhones that keep me from buying them... meanwhile, Apple has added Cut & Paste. Hell, maybe an iPhone really is in my future!

Sprint just sent me a refurbished Touch Pro because the touch screen would no longer align on my old one. I figure that gives me at least a year of having a nice fully functional WinMo phone. By then, I imagine Android will be even more "ready for prime time." By then, I imagine SPB Mobile Shell 5.0 will be out.

By then, Microsoft will have lost another customer.

exactly since we will be the ones that will sprread the word on what they cant do anymore... but thats where the money is at, they have the 6.5.5 in the works still so why dont they just get smart and keep both lines, they can call it windows 7 phone series but have the names work and play to seperate the groups :) now thats thinking for the future, you gain new customers especially xbox fans and than at the same time you are keeping your current customers happy. you will have to hire more people but you are still going to sell mad devices of both types to compensate.

i feel about wp7 the same way i feel about the millions of apps in the app store that each brand keeps chasing. ok it's cool if i can shake my phone and point it and it makes a sound like i cocked and fired a gun.....my kids think it's neat, but really what does that do? i want apps that i think enhance my phone, not what someone else thinks my phone needs. microsoft people must checkout message boards right. i mean every forum out there has a "show ur home screen" thread......and i don't think there's two alike. doesn't that point to user customization? oh well

exactly and microsoft had that going for them, no one can touch them in that aspect and now they throw away the best thing about them to be like the others.... if they would ahve left the stuff i mentioned in post 3 i believe in the device we wouldnt all be complaining... or if they did what i mentioned 2 posts up as well.

it seems like they had the right idea w/ titanium, add what tabs you want. that's why i stick to sense. htc does such a good job of giving you what you want. it's disappointing but, i'm finding out, typical.

i dont blame you guys for not wanting wp7 lack of customization really hurts, but for me im down to give up those things for what i get in advance cuz right now the 95% of the apps/games look like crap on WM especially after owning a iphone & with silverlight i think devs can make some really good apps & im just sick of nothing good coming out on these phones i have app envy & its not something that i wanna live plus im a xbox dude so they could have added achievements to any OS & i would jump to it

so the desisions is easy for me & its not like i have to give back my TP2 so ill have the best of both worlds, but i do hope they add whats missing so you guys can join me

True, but instead of "established" I would say "shrinking". I don't like what they're doing, but I understand it. As smartphones become more ubiquitous, they need to be able to appeal to more (ie dumber) people.
